This week we were in the East end of London Ontario at a residential home. The client had a couple of issues that needed attention. One section of their shingled roof had been leaking, due to aged shingles, and a poor slope on their roof, which was causing piles of snow to sit on the roof, as well as have water freeze and lift the shingles.
Another issue was that their flat roof section needed to be repaired and replaced, however the flat roof tied into the shingled section. You can watch our video as to how we tied it in so that there is a strong waterproof crossover between the two surfaces.
For the shingled section we peeled off all the shingles and felt paper in that area and put down peel and stick ice and water shield to eliminate the issue with pooling and freezing water.
For the flat roof we took off the old surface, put new sopaboard down, and installed new drip flashing, but we left the eaves troughs in because it would save the clients money and they were in good condition (we do our best to save you money!).
To tie in the flat and shingle roof we removed 3 rows of shingles and brought the membrane up under those layers to ensure that no water would get through those layers.

We were out in the West End of London, working on a very high section of roof with a lot of special details, so we had to be extra attentive and careful on this assignment. This client was looking to get their leaking roof repaired and so they called Legacy to get the job done right.
We noticed a lot of moss up on the roof which we had to remove. If you notice moss up on your roof it can mean that either there is a lot of moisture sitting on top of your roof, or that the roof membrane has been compromised and you have moisture in the roof. We removed all of that, and a lot of dirt and stone, and put a new substrate and sopaboard down.
We apologize for the video quality, it’s late in the year and it got dark quick, but you can see that the job turned out great. We put up new flashing detail to ensure that the water runs away from the wall and away from where we adhered the membrane to the wall. We are really excited about this repair for the client, we know that this will stop their roof from leaking for many many years.

This project was for a residential home in Wallaceburg Ontario with a 400sqft carport. The roof was in rough shape and needed to be repaired, so our job was to remove the stone, place sopaboard and a new cap sheet over to give it a good watertight seal.
The project was not straightforward, there was an eavestroph on 3 of the 4 sides, and a window detail on the fourth side alone with a brick wall and metal flashing.
Our first job was to remove the stone, then place the sopaboard on a slight slope so that the water would run away from the house and not pool water anywhere.
We left the existing metal flashing against the brick wall and put the base sheet over the top of it for extra water protection. We are very meticulous with the work we put underneath the roof just as much as the finishing touches.
We put new cap sheet around the window and put new metal finishing on everything to give it a great curb appeal look

This project was in the North end of London. Our client had a spiral staircase that led up through a whole in his flat roof that he had removed, and now wanted to cover the hole before winter set in.
Our job was to add a section of plywood over the new beams placed into the frame of the roof, put an inch of polystyrene down to bring the roof just slightly above the existing level of the roof to avoid any ponding, and the regular sopaboard, add a 2 ply system and repair the metal flashing.
The surface of the roof is granulated so we we to degranulate the surrounding edges so we got a good tie in. What we found when we were on the roof that there was a good amount of pea gravel all over the roof that we could use so when the project was finished by the days end you couldn’t see that there was a hole there in the first place!

This past weekend we were out in Rodney Ontario working on the roof of a grocery store. The client called us and wanted us to check out two issues they were having with the roof:
Issue #1: Drain
There was a drain in the centre of the roof that appeared to be leaking and causing problems with water inside the store. What we did was strip a 15′ x 15′ area of the roof, removed the gravel, scraped and scribbed the roof clean and installed sopaboard and then went over it with the new peel and stick roof. We also installed a new drain that doesn’t get blocked and backed up by debris because of it’s special design. This should provide years of trouble free issues now with the drain. By covering such a large area of roof we should have avoided any extra or small splits in the old roof.
Issue #2: Flashing
This was an unusual complaint. The client only experienced leaks in the roof when there was ice on the roof that was melting, which is a tell tale sign that the flashing is old and water is going underneath it and it needs to be replaced. We degranulated the roof to investigate and sure enough that was the culprit! We laid down a new section of roof and new flashing. The client wasn’t ready to install a new roof, which was what we would recommend, but this should last them for a few more years until they are ready to move ahead with a new roof.

We found ourselves out in Wyoming Ontario at Huron Web, a local print and graphics shop on one of the hottest days for 2012. The client was experiencing some leaks in two sections of the roof, and they wanted us to come up with some cost effective methods of identifying the source of the leaks, and a way to fix it.
We did some investigating on how to find the roof leak, and found two sections that needed repair:
1. There was a corner section of the roof with pea gravel on it. We removed the stone, vacuumed it clean to remove any debris, and put down new sopaboard to give them another 5-7 years of trouble free use of their roof
2. The second section was much larger and much more challenging, as we had to remove the air conditioning unit from the roof (we were fortunate that it was only sitting on a patio stone and insulation), we had to remove the old metal flashing and some security lights which would need to be put back by an electrician. Because there were no issues with the pea gravel in this area we were able to put sopaboard and cap sheet right over the top of the gravel.
For both sections we removed the old metal flashing and numbered it so that we could reuse it. It would save the client money, and ensure that some sections wouldn’t have new and old flashing and look strange from the street view.
We saved the client a great deal of money and gave them extra life for their roof.
